When it comes to training your dog, you have a few options including private one-on-one sessions or group training classes. While private sessions are often what people think of when they consider dog training, the group class environment offers an array of unique benefits that can benefit both you and your dog greatly. Here are just a handful of benefits training of group dog training classes!

Cost-Effective

One of the primary benefits of group dog training classes is that they are often significantly cheaper than private training sessions. Private lessons can become expensive as you’re paying for a trainer to drive to you and reserve their schedule just for you. For a good trainer this can get pricey! Group classes, on the other hand, spread the cost among multiple participants, making them a more affordable option for many dog owners. This allows you to invest in your dog’s training without breaking the bank.

Socialization

Socialization is a critical aspect of a dog’s development. Group training classes provide an excellent opportunity for your dog to learn how to behave around and with other canines in a controlled environment. This can be extremely beneficial in building your dog’s confidence, can reduce the chance of your dog developing reactive behaviors and can be an excellent way to teach a dog appropriate, polite play with their canine friends.

Distraction Training

Training in a group setting inherently comes with various distractions such as other dogs, people, smells, and sounds that you just can’t replicate anywhere else! This is incredibly beneficial for teaching your dog to focus on you and the tasks at hand despite these distractions. The skills learned in such an environment can translate well into the real world, where your dog will encounter many distractions out of your control. This form of training helps in building a reliable and well-behaved pet that can listen to commands even in chaotic settings.

Plus, if your dog is struggling with a specific type of distraction your trainer may be able to help replicate it in class!

Access to Equipment

A great benefit of attending group classes at a facility is access to equipment you wouldn’t have elsewhere! At Where Sit Happens we have everything from agility obstacles and Klimbs to visual barriers and lifelike stuffed dogs. Unless you’re really dedicated you probably don’t have all of that accessible in your home (…though if you do, we are jealous!) nor could a trainer fit it all in their car.

Even smaller items can be extremely useful when taking classes in a facility. Is your dog too distracted to work for his regular treats? We’ve got freeze dried liver in the back! Struggling with loose leash walking? We can fit you for our favorite brand of harness on the spot. We are so grateful to have access to these resources!

Building a Community

Joining group dog training classes can be an excellent way to meet like-minded pet owners. It provides an opportunity to build a community where you can share experiences, advice, and support. The camaraderie that forms between the dog owners can extend beyond the training classes, leading to playdates, group walks and lasting friendships.

This positive environment encourages consistent attendance and participation which are essential for seeing results.
